Albury Park, Albury, Guildford GU5 9DN, UK – 01483 202594
This was the church of Albury village which was hereabouts, but in 1839 the village was levelled by the lord of the manor and the villagers rehoused in the present Albury. He then made the redundant church into a mortuary chapel for himself, decorated by Pugin. The owners of Albury Park have had a hostile attitude to visitors for a very long time, so there is only one right of way to it which is a dead-end footpath to the church from Park Road northwards. You can only use the park drive as a grace-and -favour concession, and only if you are visiting the church!
This is the location from which the first member of my family immigrated to the American colonies in the mid 1600's in flight from then pervasive religious persecution under the King of England. He escaped and was indentured on a ship, the Booth, and landed in what is not Powhatan County, Virginia, and settled into an area where Deep Creek joins the James River. While there, he had a large family and his children and following generations, populated much of the south, midwestern and western US. It is located near the nice little town of Albury. When visiting, one can get confused by going to the New Church, which is in the town; you have to go a couple of kilometers east to the site of this old church. Remarkable to see where your family started from nearly 350 years ago!

Beautiful church. We attended Easter Sunday mass there. It was full to bursting, so get there early to get parking and a seat. Very friendly and recently decorated. The flowers were absolutely beautiful. It's so nice to see a church so well attended these days, with people of all ages in the congregation. Also had a very accomplished choir.
A rare find,a Catholic church

Nice viewpoint from up top the hill. Slopes up the hill are sandy and a little hard to climb, but the view up there is worth it.
Great views from the church’s back yard! Bring a snack and enjoy it with your friends!
