Hotels

Barnett Hill Hotel

Blackheath Ln, Guildford GU5 0RF, UK – 01483 893361

Attended an all day business meeting. Hotel staff quite polite and helpful. Facilities are good and the old manor house setting is really excellent. Gardens are really nice (then again it was wall to wall blue skies on the hottest day of the year so far...) and well maintained. Food prepared for lunch was quite delicious.

Stayed there last night and was very impressed! Had a ground floor court yard room and it was beautiful, the bathroom was pure luxury. The grounds are magnificent and the staff were so friendly, especially the reception lady that checked us in. The bed was so comfortable and with complimentary tea, coffee etc was an added bonus. Would definitely recommend and stay there again when in the area. Thank you to everyone there.

The Wheatsheaf

High St, Bramley, Guildford GU5 0HB, UK – 01483 892722

Love this pub - lovely beer garden, child and dog friendly. The food is excellent and the staff very welcoming - definitely recommend 👍

Just wandered off the high street into the Wheatsheaf for a swift Guinness and was welcomed by friendly staff, who were quick to serve and the pint was a reasonable price too. The place is actually a hidden gem. Parking is short but there is always space across the road or just a short distance to the library car park. The pub isn't self is very nice, plenty of seating inside and spaced well. With a large TV on the wall, which had the volume down so wasn't a distraction but welcomed. Outside area (because it was a fantastic sunny afternoon) is quality. Plenty of seating on picnic tables or comfortable chairs, a little sun trap as well; which is rare these days. The public were a mix of adults and children but all very pleasant and no noisy loud mouths or chavs 😉 - I have driven passed many times and never considered popping in. I won't make that mistake again; like I said it's a hidden gem and worthy of a visit (definitely deserves 5 stars)

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Grantley Arms

The Street, Wonersh, Wonersh, Guildford GU5 0PE, UK – 01483 893351

A beautifully refurbished village pub which offers a wide ranging menu and an excellent variety of beers, wines and spirits. Service was friendly, polite and patiently efficient, particularly considering we were a party of 10, and the different dishes we ordered were all faultless in presentation and delicious in flavour... we were all impressed and delighted with our choices. Portions were sensibly sized to satisfy normal appetites with just enough room left to sample the truly fabulous desserts. Prices are not cheap, but overall quality (of food, service and general ambiance) results in good value for money. Expect to pay around £40 a head for 2 courses, a shared bottle of wine for 2 and coffee to finish. Gratuity is at your own discretion. I can highly recommend this super pub for a most enjoyable evening. Well worth a trip out. (Please press "like" if you found this review informative, thank you.)

Same chain as the Onslow Arms and just as good. It may have helped that it was a glorious sunny day but the food, beer and service was brilliant. Definitely heading back for dinner soon

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

We run an Airbnb bed and breakfast down in Devon (house below) - and we have stayed in Airbnb accommodation all over the place. You can find the wonderful little gems with totally committed hosts and really frightful places which you put down to experience! You absolutely have to read the details of each listing - and read the reviews! We have had people coming to East Quither Farm expecting to take over our whole house -  or our kitchen etc simply because they have not read the description. Basically use Airbnb wherever we go - but we do do our homework!

Bed & Breakfast Accommodation plus Guesthouses

Lockhurst Hatch Farm B&B

Lockhurst Hatch Lane, Guildford GU5 9JN, UK – 01483 202689

A nicely decorated, homely place to stay in the real countryside. The owners were very friendly and helped me to keep the fire going in the sitting room! Really liked the privacy of the annexe. I appreciated some of the small things since I stayed with a toddler - they found some toddler cutlery for us to use, and all the catches on the doors are high up beyond his reach. The owner recommended a lovely little walk that was just the right length for my little sons legs. The path to get there is a small muddy country lane, but my car handled it fine.

Stayed in the Old Dairy, very spacious and warm, loved the underfloor heating. Friendly welcome, everything we needed and lots of lovely walks on the doorstep.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
